Where it began...

Moses Davis and his wife, both retired black school teachers, bought this 100 acre farm back in the 1920's. He farmed cherries, apples, and pears, along with some vegetables and livestock.

They had a daughter, Lila, who married a well-to-do man named David O'Duncan. Lila and D.O. had many friends who came with their families to spend the lazy summer months at what was called, "Val-Du-Lakes Farm Resort". They could fish the spring-fed origin of Hunter Creek, hike the world's largest shifting sand dunes, and swim at the golden beaches of Oceana County.
Val-Du-Lake's Hill was Lila's most cherished possession. It's panoramic view of the Silver Lakes, the vast dunes, and the Great lake Michigan is breathtaking. Ocean draft ships may be seen traveling to and from Chicago via the Soo Locks and the St. Lawrence Seaway. They use the lighthouse at Little Point Sauble to guide them. The sunsets over Wisconsin are priceless.

Lila sold the farm for a dream---a place to play ball, listen to music, relax and enjoy. We save this century-old barn for her hand-hewn beauty-- strong timbers cut from this land. If you have the time to dream, or perhaps some romance, take a walk to the top of our hill before sunset. We, at Val-Du-Lakes are proud to have you as our guests.

The 'Glory Days'...

Big names, big hair, and big times

Through the late 1980's and early 1990's, some of the Nations largest bands found themselves amongst thousands of fans in Val Du Lakes Amphitheatre. Just a few of the major tours that came through Val Du Lakes were: Other concerts that hit the Val Du Main Stage between 1989-1993 include great bands like:

Val Du Lakes: NOW!

Some things change, some don't.

In 2006, Val Du Lakes was purchased by Brian & Mary Lowing with what some considered 'lofty goals'. Those goals were to put Val Du Lakes back on the map as "The Entertainment Hot-Spot in West Michigan", without losing sight of it's rich heritage and deep seeded roots. In addition to this, they sought to give back to the community a local attraction that has been dearly missed by many locals and tourists alike.

The process began by restoring this century old beauty using hand-hewn beams from the original property.
The next natural course of action was to expand and develop. Over the years Brian & Mary have invested their hearts and souls into offering the very best to their valuable patrons. Whether it be offering the friendly yet secluded up-north atmosphere found in the Campground, or the touch of elegance you'll enjoy while spending the weekend at Val Du Manor. If you're looking to have drinks with friends and enjoy a fun atmosphere filled with the sounds of the best local entertainment, then be sure to stop by the Bar & Grill.

Brian & Mary aren't done yet. Currently under development is the task of bringing big-name National Artists back to Val Du Lakes, and back to the Silver Lake area. Throughout the months to come, expect to see big things coming to Val Du Lakes!
